Vegans: Do you try to follow a food guide pyramid? If so, which? If not, why?
Been looking through a couple and have found some that are quite different…
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/f/f6/Vegan_food_pyramid.svg/780px-Vegan_food_pyramid.svg.png Stresses grains with beans second.
http://www.chooseveg.com/vegan-food-pyramid.asp Stresses grains with beans near the top.
Just two examples of my findings… I’m sure as I dig more, I’ll find more that stress other items (like this Vegetarian food guide pyramid has vegetables at the bottom with grains and beans: http://www.mayoclinic.com/images/image_popup/fn7_vegetarian.jpg )
So, Vegans, do you try to follow a food guide pyramid? If so, which one? One of the above or a different one? If you don’t try to follow a food guide pyramid, why not?
Not so you’d notice. I just use common sense mostly. Fats and sugars in the "eat least of" and fruit and vegetables in the "eat most of" categories. Cereals and legumes pretty much in the middle section. Or something like that. I don’t think I’ve looked at a food pyramid for a couple of decades, and have never seen a vegan or even vegetarian food pyramid. Yep, just common sense. And it rarely fails.
Low carb low calorie veggie meal ideas?
I’m dieting and exercising but I’ve noticed when I eat carbs, even when I calorie count them, I do not lose weight easily. As I’m vegetarian I find it really difficult to come up with low carb low calorie food ideas. Anyone got any ideas? I pretty much like everything so any recipe/meal ideas which don’t include meat, fish or poultry would be great.
My favorite discovery is spaghetti squash.
Cook it in the microwave for 5 minute bursts.
Puncture it with a sharp knife first to let steam out.
Test with an oven mitt for thumb pressure.
