Is the low carb or vegetarian diet better for weight loss?
I am struggling to find a diet that works for me…just want to lose about 15 pounds by June…any suggestions? Which diet is better for you and better for weight loss???
It’s very hard to maintain weight on a vegetarian diet unless it’s extremely low calories. It’s almost impossible to lose weight even with low calories. Excess fat accumulation is a symptom of a hormonal problem caused by excess carbs triggering excess insulin. The blood stream needs to be free of insulin before fat will be released.
You can lose more body fat eating protein & fat (don’t eat protein alone) than not eating AT ALL. To lose weight fast, eat all you want, but nothing but meat, eggs, healthy oils, mayo, butter & half an avocado a day (for added potassium). Keep the calories high & the fat percentage high, at least 65% of calories. Green vegetables & some cheese will continue weight loss but at a slower pace.
The first 2 weeks eat several cups a day of (mostly) lettuce & celery, cucumbers, radishes, mushrooms, peppers & more variety of vegetables thereafter – add 5 grams per day additional every week (20 grams day first 2 weeks, 25grams 3rd week, 30grams 4th week etc) til you gain weight, then subtract 10grams. That will be your personal carb level (everyone is different & depends on how active you are.)
Start with meat, fats & salads for 2 weeks and then slowly add in more green veg, wk4 fresh cheeses, wk5 nuts & seeds, wk6 berries, wk7 legumes, wk8 other fruits, wk9 starchy veg, wk10 whole grains. You will learn how your body reacts to different foods.
The first week is just water weight but fat is lost thereafter if you keep your calories high enough. Otherwise the body will strip it’s own lean tissue for nutrition. Although that may look great on a scale it will make it MUCH easier to accumulate fat in the future (since all that pesky lean tissue burning up calories will be gone). The body won’t release fat stores if you lower calories below what it needs. It will slow metabolism to compensate & store every spare ounce as fat. If you continue lowering calories, it will continue lowering the set point, til it can survive off nothing & store fat on anything. The body will only release it’s fat stores if it knows there is plenty of nutritious food.
Eating carbs while trying to lose body fat is terribly inefficient. When in glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) you have to lower your calories (which slows your metabolism) & exercise heavily to deplete your glycogen stores before burning body fat.
The core of Atkins program is converting the body from glycolysis (burning glucose as fuel) to ketosis (burning fat as fuel). Dietary fat levels need to be at >65% of total calories, if not, the body will still remain in glycolysis by converting 58% of excess protein into glucose (via gluconeogenesis).
It takes minimum of 3 days to convert a body to ketosis, (but only one bite to convert back to glycolysis). People feel sluggish the first week but most feel better than ever thereafter.
Carbohydrates (sugar, flour, bread, cereal, pasta, potatoes, rice, beans) trigger insulin (the ONLY fat storage hormone). Protein triggers the fat burning hormone glucagon.
Simple carbs are addictive & can be disastrous to health. The best way to break the addiction is NO carbs for 3 days. Make a huge batch of deviled eggs, eat one every time you want "something" – have huge omelets with bacon, sausage, peppers, mushrooms & cheese. Pork chops smothered with peppers, mushrooms & cheese – pork rinds & dip or tuna/chicken/turkey/egg salad – steaks – a huge sugar free cheese cake. Eat so much you won’t feel deprived of anything. By the 4th day, the addiction will be gone & you can start making healthy choices.
High insulin levels promote inflammation, weight gain, hunger & unbalance other hormones. Controlling insulin levels will balance out other hormones & allow human growth hormone (HGH) to be produced naturally so lean muscle will be gained even without exercise.
Ground flax seed (2 Tbsp) 1/4 cup water, artificial sweetener, mix in a raw egg – let sit 10 min. to absorb liquid, put some cream cheese in the middle & nuke 2 min for daily fiber needs.
As long as you have <9grams carbs per hour, you will maintain insulin control & shouldn’t gain weight, no matter the calories because insulin, the fat storage hormone is not activated. Many people gain weight on high carb, do low carb to lose weight & then are shocked when they return to high carb & gain weight. Many people can return to moderate carb levels but very few can really eat all they want of sugar & maintain weight or health.
I am adamantly opposed to low calorie dieting because most people lose a good portion of lean tissue (including vital organs like the heart) along with fat stores. There is no nutrition in fat stores, only energy. Most people get impatient and lower their calories and increase their exercise to a point where they lose so much lean tissue that when they return to what was maintenance level eating they are now accumulating more fat stores because their caloric needs have dropped due to the loss
whats a healthy diet for a 14 year old vegetarian?
im 14
female
155 pounds
im exactly 5 feet tall.
i really want to get down to 130 pounds if not at least 140
i need a healthy vegetarian diet like breakfast, lunch & dinner.
and i plan to start walking in the mean time because me and my mom are gonna buy a tredmill pretty soon.
just thought i’d throw this in: im not gonna break being vegetarian, usually for soy/protein i eat tofu or boca burgers, or any type of soy nuts and i eat my veggies too.
i’d also like to add in, i eat fish.
don’t b*tch about it either, fish isnt considered meat and doesnt contain rotting bacteria and steroids like beef/chiken and turkey.
You’re doing great.
I’m glad to hear you aren’t tossing out meat all together and fish is a very healthy choice. Eat nuts and legumes for protein as well as your soy and tofu. You don’t want a protein deficiency!
Eating a well balanced diet of whole grains, nuts, berries, fruits, vegetables and fish will help. Also if you don’t drink milk you need to get your calcium from somewhere, I suggest a supplement or soymilk.
Take a vitamin supplement too, one that has no additives.
Good luck!

Does anyone know a simple vegetarian recipe for lasagna with soya and cheese, that explains all the steps?
Right from the soya in the pack to the finished meal?
Anything without eggs or meat should be fine.
The following link has many recipes for vegan lasagna, many of which use soy-based cheeses. I hope this helps!

Honey just avoid veg junk food: chips, fries, candy, cookies, etc. Don’t over eat especially rice or pasta dishes. If your still on the cow tit kick that habit too. Cows breast milk is very fattening. and full of filth.
Fairly easy vegetarian asian recipes?
So, I’m in LOVE with asian food, or just cultural food in general. I’m looking for some easy, vegetarian recipes. Stuff like stir fries, pad thai, soups, etc. I love noodle and rice dishes.
i’d prefer nothing too hard, since I’m not that great of a cook. (: Merci.
I eat fried rice with chopped red pepper, mushrooms, and onions like four nights a week. I don’t know if you were hoping for something fancier than that, but it’s really easy to put together. You can even pre-cook a bunch of rice and pre-chop a bunch of veggies to store in your refrigerator for even easier preparation. Sometimes I add sliced teriyaki tofu in there too, which is a great addition for some protein.
Instructions:
1. Cook desired amount of any type of white rice (I like to use Jasmine) per instructions on package. If you are going to be using this rice immediately instead of letting it sit in the fridge for a while, then decrease your water amount by 1/4 cup in order to come out with a drier rice which fries better. An average serving size is about 1 1/2 to 2 cups if this will be your main course. I like to cook my rice by boiling it for 10-15 minutes, just until there’s a little water left, then turning the heat off and letting it steam the rest of the way with the lid on – turns out perfect rice every time.
2. While your rice is cooking, rinse and slice any mixture of veggies you would like. Like I said, I really like the red pepper, mushroom, onion combo. Slice the veggies just a little bit thicker than you actually want them to turn out in the end, because they will reduce and shrink a bit when they’re cooked. I personally add in about a full cup to a cup and a half of chopped veggies per serving for more texture.
3. Let your wok or large skillet come to medium heat. Add one tablespoon of any kind of cooking oil ( I prefer peanut oil). Toss in your sliced veggies and add a tablespoon or two of soy sauce, depending on your taste. Cook until veggies are tender, but still have some crunch to them. Mine usually take about 3 minutes or so. Set cooked veggies aside, and wipe out your skillet/wok with a paper towel until any residue is gone.
4. Now heat your skillet again to medium high heat. Add one tablespoon of oil for every two cups of rice that you will be frying. Once your pan and oil are hot, scoop your rice into the skillet/wok. Be careful, as the oil may initially pop a little bit. Keep the rice moving in the skillet either with a spatula or by tossing the pan in order to cook the rice evenly.
5. After the rice has been evenly coated with oil, add any kind of sauce and spices you would like to flavor the rice. I usually add about 2 Tbs soy sauce, 1/4 tsp salt, a sprinkle of black pepper, a pinch of onion powder, and some Sriracha chili sauce for about 4 cups of rice. You can add whatever suits your taste, just keep tasting as you go and adjust as needed.
6. Fry the rice for 3-5 minutes total, or until it no longer sticks together and it has dried out a bit. You can taste as you go here as well, and fry until you achieve the texture you desire. Toss in your veggetables in the end and you have delicious veggie fried rice!
