What types of food can vegetarians eat?

So I’m just now beginning to be a vegetarian, I’m trying to eat more heathly, so I would like to know things that vegetarians do & do not eat:)

Well, it all depends on the type of vegetarian you are :)

If you are a pescitarian (pescitarian are vegetarians that are allowed to eat fish), then you can eat any of the following and more!!!
-Veggies such as: Broccoli, Lettuce, Cabbage, Spinach, Califlower, Brussel Sprouts, Bean sprouts, any other veggies!
-Fruits such as: Strawberries, Oranges, Apples, Pears, Grapes, Blackberries, Blueberries, Raspberries, and all the rest!
-Carbs (without meat of course) such as: rice, noodles, bread, etc.
-Fish such as: Salmon, Tuna, Shrimp, Prawns, etc.
Anything else that comes to mind without meat!

But if you are a vegetarian (therefore eatting no meat or fish at all) then….
Basically everything that pescitarians eat but fish.

Hope I helped out!

Why are people considered to be vegetarians if some still eats eggs or cheese?

There are different sub-categories for vegetarians (vegans, lacto-vegetarians, etc). Don’t understand why eating eggs should still be under a separate class of a different type of vegetarian.

Because eggs and cheese are not animal flesh, abstaining from consumption of which being the DEFINITION of "vegetarian".

There aren’t "separate classes" of vegetarian.

Lacto-ovo-whatever is REDUNDANT, since "vegetarian" only refers to a diet excluding meat.

There’s vegetarians, and vegans, and people of both who want to make themselves feel special by making up special names to describe their individual dietary eccentricity.

Can someone name four types of vegetarians and the foods eaten by each thanks so much?

Vegan: eats no animal products (also does not use them)
Ovo-lacto vegetarian: eats no slaughter products, but does eat eggs and dairy
Lacto-vegetarian: eats no slaughter products or eggs, but does eat dairy
Ovo-vegetarian: eats no slaughter products or dairy, but does eat eggs

There are a few sub-types of vegan out there, including fruitarian (who avoid eating foods that require killing plants) and raw (who do not eat foods that were heated above a certain temperature).

Occasionally, you’ll see meat-limiting diets lumped in with vegetarianism. This is fairly common, but not accurate. If a diet includes any type of animal flesh, it’s not vegetarian.

three types of vegetarians?

Ovo, lacto, ovo/lacto.

Raw vegetarians! Which types of food do you always have at home?

Rice noodles. Love’em

What types of vegetarians are there?

Vegetarians start off eating no meat of any kind from any animals under "kingdom animalia" and also slaughter by-products (rennet, gelatin, animal fats, tallow, bone char…)

Here is a handy little chart (feel free to copy and use it just don’t alter it):

Pescetarian-a vegetarian fish

Pollotarian- a vegetarian chicken

Flexitarian- a flexible vegetarian (a dancer or maybe a gymnast who is also vegetarian)

Semi-Vegetarian – a crash between a semi trailer truck and a vegetarian. Not a very pretty site.
Vegetarians need to watch out when crossing the street or driving.

Lacto-ovo- eats dairy and eggs (no meat or slaughter by products)

Lacto- eats dairy no eggs (no meat or slaughter by products)

Ovo- eats eggs no dairy (no meat or slaughter by products)

Strict/Pure Veg (often mis-refered to as veganism)- eats no animal products or by products whatsoever

Raw- eats from 80-100% raw vegetables and fruits, nuts, grain and legume sprouts, seeds, plant oils, sea vegetables, herbs, and fresh juices as in heated to no more than 118 degrees (basically a strict/pure veg diet just made raw)

Fruitarian – eats only fruit, nuts, seeds, and other plant matter that can be gathered without harming the plant

Buddhist vegetarians (and some others) eat basically a strict/pure veg diet but also exclude onion, garlic, scallions, leeks, or shallots and other members of the allium family.

"The word ‘veganism’ denotes a philosophy and way of living which seeks to end the idea of animals as property and exclude all forms of intentional exploitation of, use of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing, research or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, including people and the environment.
In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals."

I heard there are two types of vegetarians: vegans and vegetarians. What do they eat? Wats the difference?

Vegans and vegetarians are different. Vegetarianism is just about diet, veganism is much more. However some people do get it wrong and continue getting it wrong and refuse to change sometimes out of selfishness or ignorance and sometimes for other poor reasons.

Veganism is more a path in life it is not a destination or an lightswitch but a journey into learning about compassion and adopting a compassionate lifestyle free of animal exploitation and learning more and eliminating more exploitation from your life as you go along.

Veganism also is not a sub-group or category of vegetarianism. They have some similarities but veganism is way more encompassing and only about the animals where as some people go vegetarian for health or bits of compassion or ethics or morals or anything under the sun. Vegans are pure vegetarians diet wise but that is where the similarities tend to end aside from a lot of vegans including myself started off as vegetarians.

Vegetarianism is a diet that is currently: Not eating meat and slaughter by products from anyone under "kingdom animalia" originally it meant no animal products whatsoever but has now changed to include eating dairy and eggs and other animal products and by-products that are not taken from slaughter. Some vegetarians also don’t wear fur or leather or things like that but haven’t yet made the switch to living vegan.

Which types of cheese contain rennet?

I’ve just become a vegetarian and I know that rennet comes from the lining of cow’s stomachs. I’ve heard that it is in some types of cheese. Are there any specific types I should steer clear from?

I have been a vegetarian for almost a year and this is a very tough subject. Especially if you love cheese. Girl9 is wrong. Not all real cheese contains animal rennet.

I’ve started buying Cabot block cheeses. They have many different varieties to choose from and they state on their packaging that their cheese does NOT contain animal rennet. I’ve also contacted them via email to find out where they get their milk from. They wrote back to me in a very timely manner and assured me that they only get their milk from family farms where the cows have access to pasture and are able to roam free. This is a great option of cheeses for vegetarians as it does not contain animal rennet, contains milk from only family farms where the cows are treated humanely, and it is very reasonably priced. It is also very delicious. I am sure you will be able to find this cheese at your local supermarket and Super Walmart also carries this brand. You can also check out their web site at www.cabotcheese.com.

Pouncer2000 is also wrong. None of Cabot’s cheese contains animal rennet. You can check out their FAQ page under "Cabot Products and Your Diet". I hope this helps. Have a great day!!
