What are the pros and cons of being a vegetarian?
But not vegan, I could never do that. As for the type of vegetarian, eggs and milk are fine but not seafood.
Pro:
*reducing risk of various cancers, heart disease, obesity, diabetes etc
*reducing your greenhouse gas emissions by not eating large ruminants (will be reduced much more if you also cut out dairy)
*increasing the amount of plant foods available (less demand for animal foods = fewer crops fed to animals)
*reducing your contribution to the amount of suffering in the world
*inspires you to learn to cook or to learn new ways to cook
*stupid comments from meat heads (amusing)
Con:
*can be slightly inconvenient
*need to balance limited nutrients like long chain omega 3 fatty acids, possibly with supplements
*stupid comments from meat heads (amusing at first, but gets boring quickly)
There is no such thing as a fatty protein. Proteins are one type of molecule, fats are another. There is more fat in meat than vegetables, so if there was such a thing as a fatty protein it would be in meat.

10 points! What type of vegetarian am I?
I took a quiz and it said I’m a vegetarian type.. What? O_o
What type of vegetarian am I?
I don’t eat any meats except fish, shrimp, seafood stuff except octopus, squids, and stuff..
I eat bread, but I don’t eat eggs/yogurts/milk and stuff.. Only bread, rice, etc?
I mostly eat rice and fish with vegetables, or sometimes I eat salads with dressings and croutons for lunch/dinner.
I eat fruits and bread at breakfast.
I heard that vegetarians die fast, or some die from not enough nutrients.. Will that be me..? O_o
So, what type of vegetarian am I?
Please help! 10 points to the answer!
Sorry to break it to you, but if you eat fish you are not a vegetarian. Fish is not a vegetable it is a living, breathing creature that is very capable of feeling pain. So some may call you a pescetarian but I would call you an omnivore. I am not trying to upset you but I don’t understand why sea creatures are any less valuable than creatures who live on land.
And you tend to live longer and are healthier as a vegetarian.

What’s the difference between the different types of vegetarians?
I know there’s: vegan, vegetarian (did i miss any out?.) And what’s the difference between the two? What food can and can’t they eat?
This question comes up a lot on here.
Vegetarian:
To put it this way, vegetarians don’t eat anything from a dead animal. This means no meat, fish, gelatin, animal lard, broth and gravy made from animal extracts, and beef tallow. They can consume dairy and eggs.
Vegans:
Vegans basically cut out everything a vegetarian does, except they don’t consume dairy, eggs, and even honey.
If someone went vegetarian/vegan for for animal cruelty reasons, they will not use leather, fur, snake skin, or other things from a killed animal
Can someone explain the different types of vegetarians please?
I’m thinking of being one and trying to decide what’s best for me. Thanks. ![]()
There are dozens of unknown names that people come up with, but here are the most common:
Lacto-ovo vegetarian: Doesn’t eat meat, but does eat dairy products such as milk, cheese, and eggs.
Lacto-vegetarian: Doesn’t eat meat OR eggs, but does eat dairy products such as milk and cheese.
Ovo-vegetarian: Doesn’t eat meat OR dairy, but eat is eggs.
Vegan: Nothing from animals. No meat, dairy, eggs, honey, ect. They also have to check the ingredients for animal-derived ingredients such as gelatin, whey, lard, casein, ect.
Raw vegan: Nothing from animals, and no food that is cooked about 115 degress (farenhite). Their diet includes raw fruits and vegetables, sprouts, nuts/seeds, and raw nut milks.
Fruitarian: Only eat foods that came from seed-based plants. Basically only fruits and raw nuts/seeds. Although some DO eat a small amount of greens. This diet isn’t as common, and many are afraid to try it out since some believe you won’t have proper nutrition. Here is a guy who has been fruitarian for 3 years and has had great success: http://www.youtube.com/user/TheFruitarian
There are also a few types of "pre-vegetarian" diets, that restrict meat. They are NOT vegetarian, but usually on their way to become one:
Pescitarian: The only meat that they eat is fish. No beef, chicken, pork, ect.
Flexitarian: The only they meat that they eat is white meat (chicken and fish). No red meat such as pork, beef, ect.
Hope that helps you out:)
Foods with a lot of protein that vegetarians can eat?
My mom seems to think i’m not getting enough protein, so what types of food have a lot of protein besides the obvious (beans, nuts)
fish and milk have high protein along with yogurt, cottage cheese, and a lot of cheese.
Raw Vegetarian Meal (Pucuk Ulam)
I eat vegetarian meals for health reason only and not cultural or any other religious reasons. Vegetarianism is the way of living a healthy life and if you want to avoid those vitamin pills, this might be the solution. Clean, raw, self planted vegetable. I am practicing this twice or more in a week. I have been practising meatless diet since 2004 and without any pills or health supplements. Untill today, not only I am still ok with it but I feel better and more healthier and something like ‘younger’. ![]()
You may try this if you want to.
Vegetarianism is a popular choice for many individuals and families. But parents may wonder if kids can safely follow a vegetarian diet and still get all necessary nutrients. Most dietary and medical experts agree that a well-planned vegetarian diet can actually be a very healthy way to eat. But special care must be taken when serving kids and teens a vegetarian diet, especially if it doesn’t include dairy and egg products. And as with any diet, you’ll need to understand that the nutritional needs of kids change as they grow.
************Types of Vegetarian Diets:-
Before your child or family switches to a vegetarian diet, it’s important to note that all vegetarian diets are not alike.
Major vegetarian categories include:
•ovo-vegetarian: eats eggs; no meat
•lacto-ovo vegetarian: eats dairy and egg products; no meat
•lacto-vegetarian: eats dairy products; no eggs or meat
•vegan: eats only food from plant sources
And many other people are [semi-vegetarians] who have eliminated red meat, but may eat poultry or fish.
Kids or families may follow a vegetarian diet for a variety of reasons. Younger vegetarians are usually part of a family that eats vegetarian meals for health, cultural, or other reasons. Older kids may decide to become vegetarians because of concern for animals, the environment, or their own health.
In most cases, you shouldn’t be alarmed if your child chooses vegetarianism. Discuss what it means and how to implement it, ensuring your child makes healthy and nutritious food choices. A well-planned vegetarian diet can meet kids’ nutritional needs and has some health benefits. For example, a diet rich in fruits and veggies will be high in fiber and low in fat, factors known to improve cardiovascular health by reducing blood cholesterol and maintaining a healthy weight. However, kids and teens on a vegetarian diet may need to be careful that they get an adequate amount of certain vitamins and minerals.
If you aren’t sure your child is getting all necessary nutrients or if you have any questions about vegetarian diets, check in with your family doctor, pediatrician, or a registered dietitian.
If you feel that veganism is not suitable for you then change and try plain vegetarianism. Don’t push yourself too hard. Harming self is definately not the right decision.
Good luck

What are the different types of vegetarians?
Can you tell me the types of vegetarianism and what foods they eat and don’t eat? Thank you!
Lacto-vegetarian: no meat or eggs or slaughter by-products, but consume dairy.
Ovo-vegetarian: no meat or dairy or slaughter by-products, but eat eggs.
Lacto/ovo-vegetarian: no meat or slaughter by-products, but consume dairy and eggs.
Strict vegetarian: eats no animal products but still uses items that were tested on animals, clothing, accessories, etc from animals.
Vegan: does not eat, wear, or use any sort of animal product as is practical and possible.
"Pescetarians" and "flexitarians" and any other "-tarians" are NOT vegetarian because they all eat animal flesh.
