Here’s the low-down on what we are doing to lose weight and how it works.
1. Figure out what your “maintain weight” calories are and eat 500 calories LESS than that number every day.
2. Exercise for at least 30 minutes, 5x/week.
3. Drink water! Divide your weight in half and drink that number in ounces of water every day.
(4. Make healthier choices as you go along and get better at doing steps 1-3.)

1/2 Tomato, sliced
1/4 Cucumber, peeled and sliced
1/4 Cup Garlic Feta Cheese

If there is anything good to be said about the state of the American diet,
it is that with the prevalence of obesity and high cholesterol,
there is increasing awareness of the problem and an increasing number of solutions.
The low cholesterol diet no longer has to be tasteless and boring,
because there are a multitude of products available that are not only low in cholesterol themselves, but also some that even work to lower cholesterol.
It is also possible to make substitutions for high cholesterol items without sacrificing great taste and nutritional value.
STEP 1
Substitute butter or regular margarine with a spread with a margarine that is made with plant sterols.
STEP 2
Use olive oil to cook in when oil is called for. It is possible to actually substitute olive oil in muffin, cornbread or cake recipes.
STEP 3
Cook with ground turkey instead of ground beef. Turkey is flavorful meat which substitutes nicely for ground beef.
STEP 4
Replace eggs with egg substitute products, most of which contain no cholesterol and are made from egg whites.
STEP 5
Try using some of the many meat substitute products available from health food stores.
STEP 6
Avoid fatty cuts of meat. An occasional meal of beef is acceptable;
make sure to trim the beef of as much fat as possible, Choose grilling as the cooking method.

High protein Vegetarian/Vegan Meals: 3 Bean Patty
Also Vegan. 300 Calories. 35g Protein. 45g Carbs. 5g Fat
Here’s the recipe/instructions for you (copy, paste & print:-)
Chick peas
Red kidney beans in a chilli sauce
Butterbeans
Tahini paste
Lemon juice
Crushed garlic
1 small diced onion
80 grams of ground almonds
Salt
Pepper
Ground flaxseed (linseed)
Frozen wee peas
Frozen broccoli
Boil kettle
Turn on oven
Switch on hob
Get your steamer (or just a pot)
Add boiling water from the kettle
Open and drain your beans
Beans in the blender
Add lemon juice,
Hot sauce,
Tahini paste,
4 to 6 cloves of crushed garlic, or whatever you like
Blend
Be careful not to blend all of the beans, aim to keep 25-35%
Empty into a mixing bowl
Add onion…
Ground almonds…
3 rounded tablespoons of ground flaxseed
Mix until dry ingredients are completely mixed in
Add pepper and salt
Mix again
Form into three large balls, or breasts; whichever you prefer
Store the other two in the fridge for the next two days
Weigh approx 80 grams of broccoli & 80 grams of wee peas
Place in steamer (or pot of boiling water)
Place a frying pan on the heat
Use a little oil if you
Place your patty ball/breast in the pan
Flatten into a patty
Shake now and again to stop it from sticking
After approx 3 minutes…
Flip!
Be happy with yourself ![]()

Betty’s Fourth of July Celebration Veggie Relish Tray Recipe
In this video, Betty demonstrates how to assemble a large, gorgeous relish tray for your 4th of July party! Also, don’t forget that it will go great with Betty’s “The Real Deal” Dill Weed Dip!
Ingredients:
grape or cherry tomatoes
broccoli florets
radish roses
celery fans
red bell pepper rings
green bell pepper rings
cucumber flowers
cauliflower florets
carrot curls
Wash all vegetables and dry them with paper towel (or clean kitchen towel). Cut the vegetables into serving pieces that you can eat with your fingers. (For the radish roses, carrot curls, celery fans, and cucumber flowers, please see Betty’s Quick Tips, if you need help making them.) Arrange the vegetables in a large tray in an attractive way. I used alternating colors and textures. You may omit any vegetable that you do not like, and add in others. Also, I only used natural foods–nothing processed like pickles, olives, jalapeno slices, etc. Make your relish tray to your own taste. After using the relish tray for your party or for a meal, you will probably have leftovers. Place these in a gallon-sized plastic zip-lock bag, and store in the refrigerator. The vegetables should stay fresh up to a week or so. Diet tip: Place the bag of vegetables in plain view, so that when you go for a snack, it will be the first thing you see. It may cause you to have a healthy, fat-free snack instead of that piece of cake that is calling your name! And, remember, the Dill Weed Dip is fat-free, also! This may be the beginning of a diet that truly will work!!!
